About Us

Ben Milam Elementary was built in McAllen, Texas in 1967, originally consisting of just 12 classrooms. Over the years, Milam has had two additional wings constructed to meet the needs of the growing population. Milam Elementary has only had four principals in the 50 plus years that it has been open: Mr. Rhodes, Mr. Larson, Mrs. McGurk, and Mrs. Quintanilla, our current principal.

Milam strives to develop balanced, lifelong learners through the development of seven competencies and emotional intelligence. We are a Dual Language campus, with PK-2nd grade classrooms participating in the program. Milam offers Robotics, Chess, Cheerleading, UIL, and other clubs and teams. Our students and staff annually participate in the AHA Jump Rope for Heart event and consistently raise the most funds in the region.
