Drake, a 2nd grader in Mrs. Oliveira’s class at Milam Elementary, recently celebrated a special musical milestone by performing in his very first piano recital on December 14, 2025, at the Cooper Center for Performing Arts at South Texas College in McAllen, Texas. Drake proudly played “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” a piece by composer Edvard Grieg, who was also our Music Class Composer of the Month in October. This energetic selection is one of the students’ favorites, as they have enjoyed learning about Peer Gynt and listening to this exciting piece in class. Drake was especially excited to share that he recognized the music right away and had the opportunity to perform it himself, showing a wonderful connection between what students are learning in music class and how they are applying it beyond the classroom.
Drake's goal is to perform this piece at the Milam Elementary talent show for the entire school to enjoy.
