Happy New Year

As 2026 begins, Milam Elementary is turning the page on a powerful New Year’s resolution: building strong, joyful reading habits that lead to academic success. Reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge, and confidence—and when it becomes a daily habit, its impact is lasting. As Dr. Seuss reminded us, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” At Milam, students are encouraged to discover the fun of reading through choice, curiosity, and celebration. The school’s AR (Accelerated Reader) program plays an important role by helping students track their reading, set goals, and stay engaged, while earning recognition for their efforts. This rewarding system keeps motivation high and turns reading into a challenge students are excited to take on.

That excitement is easy to see thanks to the incredible literacy culture growing across campus. Under the leadership of Ms. Hernandez, Milam Elementary proudly features a Book Machine—donated through a PTO partnership with Whataburger—that has quickly become a student favorite. Using earned tokens, students look forward to selecting a brand-new book, as a special birthday reward they eagerly anticipate. Behind the scenes and at the heart of it all are Librarian Mrs. Ramirez and Library Aide Ms. Zamora, whose passion and encouragement inspire students and staff alike to read more, learn more, and proudly share their literacy growth with one another. At Milam, reading isn’t just a resolution—it’s a celebration that lasts all year long. 📚✨
